The Butterfly Generation

A personal Journey Into The Passions And Follies Of India's Technicolour Youth

Summary

The Butterfly Generation: A Personal Journey Into The Passions And Follies Of India’s Technicolour Youth is a book that blurs the line between fiction and non-fiction. It discusses the lifestyle of India’s youngsters - people in the age group of 25-35 and form almost half of India’s population. The main plot revolves around Aditi, the protagonist, a girl who loves dancing, and the freedom that she enjoys in the city.

The book tracks her life in New Delhi, and observes the behaviour of a generation that refuses to bend down to the old rules of living. The author effectively paints a picture of the drastic cultural change among the urban youth in liberal India. The book has three sections, namely, One-On-One, Wide Angle, and Entertain Us. It touches upon sensitive topics like commitment and drug abuse, while maintaining an objective stance.

The author, Palash Krishna Mehrotra, is an upcoming writer from Dehradun. He is known for his bold style of writing, and his one another book is Eunuch Park, and he is the Editor of Recess: The Penguin Book Of Schooldays. He was born in 1975 in Mumbai, and did his education at Stephen’s College, New Delhi, and Balliol College, Oxford.
